Yeti is far from abominable, starting at £13,750
The Skoda Yeti is available in four trim levels and a choice of five engines, for a total of 19 different model choices.
Key features on the new Yeti include standard-fit air conditioning, remote locking and six airbags, while both fuel-saving front-wheel drive and off-road-friendly four-wheel drive is offered.
The Yeti’s trim levels are labelled E, S, SE, and Elegance. Each is well equipped.
Yeti specification
S adds a driver’s knee airbag, fog lights, alloy wheels and electric windows in the rear in addition to those fitted as standard in the front. SE includes climate control air-con, additional storage, cruise control, rear parking sensors and a better stereo.
Finally, Elegance is the only Yeti to get electronic stability control (ESC) as standard. It also adds automatic lights and wipers, bi-xenon headlights, bluetooth connectivity, larger alloys and full leather. There's also an 'off-road' button on 4x4 models for more adventurous types.
Yeti engines
Exciting news on the engine front is the introduction of the Volkswagen Group’s new 1.2-litre TSI engine, also seen in the new VW Polo.
This turbocharged 1.2-litre petrol unit is the entry-level engine in the Yeti range. Despite its small capacity, it produces 103bhp, and is available with an optional DSG clutchless automatic gearbox - though it does only come with front-wheel drive.
The remaining choices consist of a 158bhp 1.8-litre turbo petrol 4x4, plus variants of the latest 2.0-litre TDI turbodiesel with common rail injection. These come in 108bhp, 138bhp 4x4 and range-topping 167bhp 4x4 guises - the latter only available in Elegance trim.
Class-leading value
Starting at £13,750 the Yeti is aggressively priced against rivals - with closest competitor the Nissan Qashqai starting at £14,200. Compared with other competitors such as the £20,445+ Ford Kuga, the Yeti is massively cheaper. The top-spec Yeti costs £22,120.
To upgrade from the entry-level E to an S it will cost you £500, yet you get £915 in extra equipment. From S to SE is £1,400 for £2,175 in extra kit, and from SE to Elegance it’s £1,950 for £3,005 more gear. So there is good value throughout.
The new Skoda Yeti is available to order now, with the first cars due in showrooms 17 September.
