In its bid to add more muscle to its premium compact car portfolio, Tata Motors is reportedly considering 1.4 litre petrol-driven Indica Vista during this year, as disclosed by a number of dealers privy to the news but requested anonymity.

Moreover, speculation is pretty rife that the aforesaid high-powered petrol-engined hatchback car will generate a 95 HP power and will deliver a mileage of 16.1 km/l, though nothing has been announced by the company yet. Another dealer, on condition of anonymity, has revealed that the car would be a feature-rich car and would be equipped with features like ABS+ EBD+Brake Assist, 14-inch wheels, 175/65 tyres, twin airbags at the front, a refurbished centre console, dash integrated audio system with high-tech features like Bluetooth and USB connectivity, steering-mounted controls, electrically adjustable ORVMs and keyless entry to name a few.

According to an auto industry source, there is a huge possibility that the speculated new car will have 1.4L Saffire engine that currently powers Fiat Grand Punto. This new engine will definitely be a welcome transition as the current 1.2L Saffire unit is often considered insufficient for the size of the car, as claimed by a number of auto enthusiasts before. If at all, the car hits the showrooms, it will be priced in the range of Rs. 4.5-5 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).

It maybe recalled that the Indica Vista was unveiled at the 9th Auto Expo in 2008 and the new car is not a facelift of the Indica, but has a completely new platform and shares nothing with the existing Indica. This new version is bigger than the previous Indica; it is 3,795 mm (149.4 in) long with a wheelbase of 2,470 mm (97.2 in). Currently, Tata Motors has three Indica Vista variants Aqua, Terra and the Aura in the market. The Indica Vista has two new engines, a 1.3L Quadra Jet common rail direct injection diesel and a 1.2L Safire MPFI VVT petrol engine. It is also available with the 1.4L TDi (Turbo Diesel). The Quadra Jet (Fiat JTD) is produced in Ranjangaon by the Tata-Fiat joint venture. The Indica Vista, rumoured as the Indica V3 till then, was launched in August 2008.
