Toyota Kirloskar Motors has also announced that it will be launching its Fortuner SUV in the Indian market on 24th August, 2009. The vehicle is supported by a 3-litre Advanced Common-Rail Diesel engine and will also feature fulltime four-wheel drive. The Fortuner, targeted primarily at the urban luxury SUV customer, will see TKM’s entry into the fast-growing SUV segment, and will be competitively priced. TKM expects Fortuner to take away 50 per cent market share in this category and is eyeing to clock atleast 2,000 units by the end of this year
"The Fortuner is an important addition to our product line-up in India and we are currently in the process of finalizing details for the launch," as quoted earlier by Sandeep Singh, deputy managing director, Marketing, Toyota Kirloskar Motor. "We are still working out the price details of the Fortuner, taking into account variations in exchange rates, but expect it to be around Rs. 20 lakh," he added.
The Fortuner has been highly appreciated the world over and has set global benchmarks in the luxury SUV segment. The Fortuner will be brought to India as a knocked down unit and will be assembled at TKM’s plant in Bidadi. However, the company is not launching any new model over the period between the unveiling of Fortuner in August'09 and its compact car by next year-end. However, there would be limited editions and variants of existing models hitting the roads, reported PTI exclusively.
