CNN-IBN, IBN7, Hindustan Times & Hindustan bring together ‘State of the Nation Poll’

MUMBAI: CNN-IBN, IBN7 & IBN-Lokmat return with the 8th edition of their bi-annual nationwide poll ‘State of the Nation’ that senses the mood of the nation on the most pressing issues leading up to Independence and Republic Day. The 8th edition of the poll in partnership with Hindustan Times and Hindustan and conducted by GfK Mode, dwells into the continuing tensions between tradition and modernity that exist in our country. ‘State of the Nation Poll’ is a robust opinion poll among representative urban Indians representing their views on the “Changing Attitudes in Urban India”. The findings of the poll that will reflect the mind set of urban India, will be telecast through daily programming on CNN-IBN @ 10 pm, IBN7 @ 8:30 pm and IBN-Lokmat @ 9:30pm from August 10th-14th. The key findings of the poll will also be discussed in a one hour show along with experts on 15th August at 8:00PM on CNN-IBN, IBN7 & IBN-Lokmat. The viewers can even read the detailed poll findings in Hindustan Times & Hindustan on a daily basis through the week.

Instituted in the Year 2006, ‘State of The Nation Poll’ has become a landmark initiative highlighting the ground realities of the country. In its 8th edition, the poll will examine cultural anxieties, attitudes to freedom six decades after 1947. The poll looks into 6 broad issues like

- English language & westernization
- Dress codes & religious ethics
- Role of Media & Information Boom
- Male attitudes towards Women
- Homosexuality
- Pre-marital sex & Virginity

The poll has been conducted using a structured questionnaire across the country in cities that include Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Jaipur, Patna, Bhopal, Pune, Cochin, Jallandhar, Burdwan, Surat and Vijaywada. The respondents to this poll include adult males and females, SEC A/B/C in the age group between 18-50 years. Interviews were conducted in street, corners and homes between 19th and 23th July, 2009. A representative sample ensuring a good spread for age/gender/SEC was taken into consideration.
