Lunch buffet at Star of India in SLC

indian masala

There are only a few lunch buffets that bring smiles to the faces of Utahns like that found at Star of India. (Perhaps at Himalayan Kitchen just two doors down). For just $8.95, one can enjoy a vast offering of Indian cuisine, including chicken tikka masala, lamb, chat, kormas, paneer, kofta, salad, nan and rice pudding.

I’ve never actually spoken to anyone who hasn’t had the lunch buffet at lunchtime, although the menu entrees are very good and Star of India is know for their chicken curry and tandoori chicken. I question why anyone would want to limit themselves to just one tasty item when they could have 10 fabulous ones from the buffet? (But, if you have honestly ordered off the menu at lunch, let me know what you think, what you like…and why you did it.)

The lunch buffet is served Monday through Saturday from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. The menu changes a bit from day-to-day but you can usually depend on some curry, several chicken options and vegetarians will not be disappointed. While it is true that you will leave smelling of curry, it is not overwhelming (a very common complaint, frankly) and is a great reminder of the excellent lunch just eaten.

The décor at Star of India is well-done with lighting that suits the place. In addition to some really interesting artwork, you can watch Bollywood movies on a movie-theater size screen in the back and there is some beautiful crystal in the china hutch.
